K3WRG Activates Janes Island State Park: A Fantastic Weekend of Ham Radio and Friendship

The Worcester Radio Group (K3WRG) wrapped up a memorable weekend at the scenic Janes Island State Park in Crisfield, Maryland. Tucked along Maryland’s beautiful Eastern Shore, the park offered the perfect backdrop for our Parks on the Air (POTA) activation, and what an activation it was!

Our team made over 215 contacts across the United States and around the world. From FT8, to casual ragchews, and quick POTA exchanges, the bands cooperated nicely besides a few occasions where the noise floor was high! Our portable setups performed beautifully in the peaceful surroundings of the Chesapeake Bay area.

Beyond the radio fun, we enjoyed fantastic company. Around 20 visitors stopped by throughout the weekend, including local hams and curious park guests who got a firsthand look at amateur radio in action. The camaraderie was outstanding, with plenty of stories swapped between QSOs.

A huge shout-out goes to our Secretary/Treasurer Dave Fitzgerald, K3DAF, whose delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners kept everyone fueled and happy. Nothing beats good food and great signals!

Special thanks to RJ Rhode, KC3DPS, and his wife Megan for booking the lodge and doing the heavy lifting to organize the entire event. Their hard work made everything run smoothly from start to finish.

We were also thrilled to have Curly, KC3EWN, and Miles, W3ICK, join us for the full weekend. Their enthusiasm and operating skills added even more energy to the group.

Events like this remind us why we love amateur radio: the combination of technical challenge, outdoor adventure, and building lasting friendships. Big thanks to everyone who participated, visited, or chased our signal from home. Janes Island State Park (US-1580) proved once again to be a fantastic POTA destination.

73 from the K3WRG crew, we’re already looking forward to the next activation!
